FiltersIn the treasury of Stift Klosterneuburg, the lighting in selected display cabinets has been partially replaced by a new, largely identical product. The historical exhibits now shine in a new light, offering visitors an impressive view of the monastery’s past.
The implemented video conferencing system scores with subtly integrated state-of-the-art media technology. In addition to equipping the room with a speaker system consisting of front and ceiling speakers as well as ceiling microphones with 'beam-steering' technology and a high-quality video camera, a Microsoft-Teams-Room System has been installed in one of the tables. The technology integrated into the room can also be made available to user’s connected laptops for applications such as presentations or video conferences. For operating the media technology and room lighting, a media control system and a user-friendly operating concept via touch panels have been implemented. Predefined scenarios on the touch panels also allow non-trained users to transform the room into the respective presentation-, meeting-, or video-conference mode at the push of a button. The technology is integrated into custom-designed and manufactured equipment tanks, which are mounted under the tables. Connections for laptops are accessible via hideaway table tanks and retractable power sockets.
In spring 2024, the newly redesigned wine cellar tour at Stift Klosterneuburg was inaugurated. In collaboration with Studio Kudlich, a new lighting and exhibition concept for the various production and storage rooms of the monastery was conceived and implemented. Visitors symbolically follow "the path of the grape" from the vineyards, through the press house, all the way to the impressive vaults of the baroque cellar, where they encounter the highlight of the wine cellar tour. Specially designed and crafted lighting installations poetically accentuate the existing structures as well as the displayed wine collection, creating a captivating atmosphere.
Another noteworthy aspect of this project is the necessary compatibility of the tours with the ongoing work of wine production within the premises. To address this, a control concept was developed in collaboration with the executing electrical company, which synchronizes the transition from bright work lights to dimmer tour lighting with the groups of visitors, ensuring a smooth flow of the tour despite the ongoing operations.
checkpointmedia's revamped website draws from its previous iterations while embracing contemporary design principles and enhancing user experience. The use of the brand symbol as a navigational element, and the black background of the palette, create visual break from the first version in 2001. Building upon circular menus introduced in 2006, where crafted images were innovatively employed in both digital and print media, today's iteration translates these features into interactive wheels built by code. Moreover, the website's horizontal structure, reminiscent of its predecessor, presents content comprehensively without the need for extensive scrolling. With this, the site addresses the recent comeback of the holistic view pages that avoid infinite scrolls and dropdown menus.
In tackling the challenge of managing an extensive project archive exceeding 500 items, a user-friendly catalog has been crafted to enable seamless navigation between projects without requiring page changes, ensuring users can easily explore various categories while maintaining visibility of relevant filters.
The website serves as a platform for checkpointmedia to share its digital expertise and approach to serving clients. Visitors can explore the company's services, past work, and get in touch to discuss potential collaborations.
Europe 1945. Famous photographers were making impressive images of Europe emerging anew from a world war sparked by the Nazi regime. They included the American photographer Yoichi Okamoto (1915-1985), who came to Europe as military photographer in spring 1945 and was commissioned in Austria as the personal photographer of the Commander-in-Chief of the American forces in Austria, General Mark W. Clark. His main subject was life after the war, people's hope, the pursuit of happiness, reconstruction, art and culture, and creativity in Austria. In 2019, the Austrian National Library acquired the personal photographic estate of Yoichi Okamoto, whose art inspired a whole generation of photographers in Austria and internationally. The large special exhibition in the State Hall of the Austrian National Library presents for the first time an extensive selection of impressive images documenting the visual history of Austria from the beginnings of the 2nd Republic: A unique photographic oeuvre in which society, politics, art and culture were captured from Okamoto's special point of view. Images that he himself considered his best and worthy of being preserved for posterity. The exhibition also provides unique insights into Austrian-American relations after 1945, when Okamoto headed the Pictorial Section of the United States Information Services Branch in Austria and documented all the Marshall Plan projects in Austria. Okamoto was the son of Japanese immigrants, served in the US Army himself and met his wife Paula in Vienna. In 1963, he became the official presidential photographer in the White House under Lyndon B. Johnson. (Text: Österreichische Nationalbibliothek)
At Interschutz (20 to 25 June 2022 in Hanover), the most important trade fair in the world of firefighting, the world's largest supplier of firefighting equipment presented a complete range of products and services and, in particular, demonstrated its systems expertise in the key issues of the future.checkpointmedia was commissioned to stage the key chapters of the future strategy in a sensual dramaturgical, multimedia and spectacular way: Climate change, electromobility, digitalization and robotics were presented in the heart of the Rosenbauer trade fair stand, the City Dome, on a table specially designed for the occasion and consisting of monitors, 3D models and projection mapped onto them. The Rosenbauer guides were able to select programs tailored to the respective audience using tablets and thus present to customers and partners possible scenarios that will shape the fire fighting industry in the years and decades to come: the focus is on dialog, as the major problems can only be solved together.
The 2nd basement of Mozarthaus Vienna received a technical update for the event space. This includes an upgrade with a new projector, new control technology and wireless signal infrastructure. Thanks to the new connections, both wired and wireless transmission options are available for presentations. Audiences can enjoy presentations on a state-of-the-art Barco projection system. The audio experience is completed by a new sound processor.
Two new vitrines have been installed in the Virtual Magic Flute room, which provide information about the location of the premiere of the Magic Flute and the history of the Freihaustheater. The second vitrine contains high-quality replicas of the premiere, as well as posters of the first performances of the Magic Flute all over the world. From the birthplace of the Freihausviertel to the world!
Based on the recently renewed infrastructure for media technology in Vienna's oldest cinema, checkpointmedia was commissioned to install a digital sound system consisting of a new, multi-channel cinema loudspeaker system with associated amplifiers and a sound processor for the playback of modern films and video content.
Vienna's oldest cinema, the Breitenseer Lichtspiele, has reopened after careful renovation since September 10, 2021.checkpointmedia was commissioned to plan and implement an up-to-date media technology infrastructure for modern event operations.
For centuries, the Danube was an untamed natural space. Cataracts were a threat to shipping and even the imperial residence city of Vienna was at risk of flooding. This did not change until the 19th century, when the Habsburg Monarchy set itself the task of taming the river.
The Danube became a major waterway, linking the countries of the multi-ethnic empire. But what has never changed over the centuries: the river with its spectacular banks is a unique place of longing. Musicians celebrated the wonderful "Blue Danube", while painters such as Jakob Alt recorded them in his amazing water-colours.
In the large special exhibition "The Danube", this and other extraordinary works from the Austrian National Library invite visitors on a "journey into the past". The Danube is presented as both a border and a link, as a space of yearning for artists and as a traffic route. And of course it is also about natural disasters and natural areas worth protecting.
The highlight of the exhibition is a spectacular 44-meter-long reproduction of the famous Pasetti map. This map, published by the Imperial-Royal State Ministry from 1857, shows an extremely precise image of the Danube in the territory of the Habsburg Monarchy from Passau to the Iron Gate. Its purpose at that time was to create public awareness of the political and economic importance of this waterway for the entire Austro-Hungarian Empire. Today, after the major regulatory measures and the construction of numerous power stations, it is a reminder of a Danube that no longer exists.

In 2020 the DomQuartier focuses on Salzburg’s great musical tradition, which is inseparably bound up with the history and the various rooms in the Residenz and the Cathedral precinct, as well as with Heinrich Ignaz Franz Biber, Georg Muffat, Antonio Caldara, Leopold and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Michael Haydn – long before the inauguration of the Salzburg Festival. Glorious times, illustrious guests, opulent banquets and wonderful music – even then, during the reign of the prince-archbishops, Salzburg presented an international star-studded cast and major premières.
Knights Hall Works by Mozart
In the 17th and 18th centuries, festivities took place in the places you can visit today, including the Residenz (Carabinierisaal, Konferenzsaal, Thronsaal, Rittersaal), the Cathedral and of course the specially designed public squares. The DomQuartier explores this illustrious musical history in the original historical venues, starting from the reign (1587 – 1612) of Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau who, with his new regulations for music at the court, created the basis of a long-flourishing music scene.
The designers of the exhibition – Virgil Widrich of checkpointmedia and Hans Kudlich of Studio Kudlich – have planned selective, site- and subject-specific, modern architectural interventions to bring alive for visitors’ imagination the historical scenes of festivities and music-making. It is the field of tension between historical building and recognisable reminiscence that renders the authenticity of these historical venues all the more perceptible.

Since the end of July 2019, the fairytale character Alice has been inviting children aged 4 and above to the 500m2 interactive multimedia world "The Alice fairytale" in WIEN MITTE - The Mall.
Professional amateurs lead groups of maximum 14 children through an experience world, where 12 rooms with projections covering the entire wall can be used for interactive tasks. Sophisticated sensor technology allows visitors to interact with the projections in a variety of ways. The company uses a new form of entertainment – phygitality. The term connects the digital and physical world of experience, in which children can interact on large projection screens using a mix of different technologies without having to wear special equipment on their bodies. The "Happy Rabbit" restaurant, for which Sebastian Neuschler, who previously managed the "Marktlücke" restaurant on the Karmelitermarkt, was recruited as head chef, is also connected.
checkpointmedia conceived and built design elements such as the large book at the entrance, the keyhole, the giant mushrooms and the glowing flowers, planned schematics, cables, hardware and installed the complex media technology that formed the basis for the Moscow based company HELLO that developed the concept, characters and venue plan and created the interactive software for the installations.
In addition, checkpointmedia was also responsible for the sound system in the restaurant area, the presentation technology in the party rooms and the entire control of the individual areas.
On the occasion of the 300th birthday of W.A. Mozart's father this year, the collection of old musical instruments in the Kunsthistorisches Museum lends the extremely valuable original violin by Leopold Mozart to Mozarthaus Vienna for the period from 27 May to 23 June 2019.
The violin will be on display in the rooms where Wolfgang Amadé and his father Leopold played their string quartets dedicated to Joseph Haydn in spring 1785.
checkpointmedia planned and realised an exhibition wall for flexible use with text holders, which detects the audience via built-in motion sensors and plays a sound collage with music from the original violin by Leopold Mozart.
Mozarthaus Vienna has new light-flooded areas on the 4th floor with a combination of historical and modern elements, which can be rented as a business lounge for incentives, conferences or seminars.
checkpointmedia planned and realised two presentation rooms, which are equipped with multimedia technology, light and sunblind control as well as monitors with wireless video transmission.

Cura domo is the largest private provider of 24-hour support services in Austria. The family business from Lower Austria has been supporting thousands of families throughout Austria in caring for their relatives since 2003. With the demand for care services, the requirements placed on the company's website have also risen significantly. While the home care sector is mostly about fast and uncomplicated help, the website should provide access to the necessary information and contact to companies just as easily and across all platforms. checkpointmedia has implemented the modern website for 24-hour support and the portal which also provides access to the other areas of cura domo Holding.
Two legends of their time meet: Falco and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Now they face each other – two centuries apart – for the first time directly in the interactive setting eye to eye. They are accompanied by a sound, light and film show designed by checkpointmedia. The new musical backdrop can now be seen permanently by visitors in the attraction and is waiting to be rocked by music lovers.
Inspired by Alain Resnais' „L'année dernière à Marienbad“ the winter design for Hermês am Graben mirrors the puzzling, romantic and mysterious world of Alain Robbe-Grillet into the display windows in Vienna.
Since December 2018, Madame Tussauds Vienna is presenting the wax figure of Hans Sigl in his role as "Der Bergdoktor" in an unprecedented Virtual Reality Experience: A whole area of the exhibition has been rebuilt into the Tyrolean mountains around the Wilder Kaiser. Technical update and revision of the 'Hall of Dialogue' and the 'Youth Room' with a modern design and an operating concept for easy control of all functions. User-friendly scenarios onthe touchpanel pages make it easy for untrained personnel to make use of media gear, e.g. to use the room for presentations. For experienced personnel an extended mode is available, which permits full access to the installed media, house and conference/interpreting technology.
The installation "tx-mirror" was created for the exhibition "Art in Motion. 100 masterpieces with and through media" at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and is a further development of the film technology "tx-transform" invented by Martin Reinhart in 1992. As in earlier works by the duo Martin Reinhart and Virgil Widrich, the familiar perception is questioned and expanded through intuitive interaction. In a magical mirror one can look at oneself and explore the laws of a universe in which time and space have been reversed. The installation also pays homage to the Polish video artist Zbigniew Rybczynski, whose film "The Fourth Dimension" has inspired an entire generation of artists.Link to the documentation on YouTube.
A Rube Goldberg machine is a deliberately complex contraption in which a series of devices that perform simple tasks are linked together to produce a domino effect in which activating one device triggers the next device in the sequence. The expression is named after American cartoonist and inventor of such contraptions, Rube Goldberg.Inspired by the Rube Goldberg machine, an interdisciplinary team designed four shop windows of Hermès at the Graben in Vienna: playing cards were transformed into sculptural forms to create a chain reaction of the playful and moving world of Hermès products through all four shop windows.
After checkpointmedia had already played a leading role in the great jubilee celebration "70 Years of the Marshall Plan" and had put together an exhibition for this occasion, which could subsequently be seen at various locations in Austria, the materials developed were also to be prepared for teaching purposes and thus made available to schools throughout Austria. In order to be easily accessible for both teachers and pupils, the contents were incorporated into the platform "LMS.at - Lernen mit System". LMS is a learning and collaboration platform for schools and is operated by the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. The content already developed for the exhibition was restructured for this purpose. Registered users can use the topic in different ways. In addition to an animated film that briefly explains the Marshall Plan, detailed texts, extensive picture galleries and a quiz are available. All content is available in both German and English. The contents were created with the help of a scientific advisory board. The historical images were made available by the Austrian National Library.
The exhibition is devoted to three major thematic blocks – the family history, the history of Villa Trapp, which was used by Heinrich Himmler as "Feldkommandostelle Bergwald", among others, and a confrontation between film and reality. One focus is on the person of Georg von Trapp, captain of the corvette, author and today representative of the defunct Austro-Hungarian monarchy. After the family lost most of its assets in the course of the economic crisis, the family Trapp began to appear publicly as a choir out of necessity in 1936. During this time, for instance, they sang before the Austrofascist Chancellor Schuschnigg as well as before the Italian dictator Mussolini or Pope Pius XI. After the "Anschluss" in 1938, the family planned to leave Nazi-Austria. The exhibition explores the individual stages of migration until the Trapp family finally set foot in the USA.Lastly, the cinematic reality depicted in the Robert Wise film "The Sound of Music" is juxtaposed with the reception, the “movie reality” and Austrian contemporary history in 10 viewpoints.Due to the wide range of topics, the Sound of Music World offers information in addition to the current family history linked to the commercialism of film and musical. From the very beginning, the exhibition was designed in such a way that not only sound-of-music enthusiasts, but also people from Salzburg can enjoy something interesting.Project Management: Marianne Dorfer, Reinhard Mechtler, Christopher UnterkoflerScientific editors: Helga Embacher, Barbara Huber, Hasan Softić, Jacqueline VansantTranslation: Mel GreenwaldGraphic design: galcom - Gallei Communications OGDesign & Multimedia: checkpointmedia GmbHFurniture production: Holzmanufaktur und Vitrinenbau Auer GmbH

A cooperation between the University of Applied Arts Vienna and the MAK
In 1867 the School of Arts and Crafts was established at the Imperial Royal Austrian Museum of Art and Industry (today’s MAK) to enable Austrian arts and crafts to compete internationally. This school is the antecedent institution of today’s University of Applied Arts Vienna, which is now celebrating its 150th anniversary.
The exhibition AESTHETICS OF CHANGE: 150 Years of the University of Applied Arts Vienna in two parts casts a glance back onto 150 years of the University’s history, while at the same time daring to look into the future.
The Angewandte: 1867–2017: From A to Z
This time span is the topic of the first part of the jubilee exhibition in the MAK’s lower Exhibition Hall, curated by Elisabeth Schmuttermeier and Patrick Werkner. The objects on view are from the University’s own collections, supplemented by works from the MAK’s holdings. Associated with this are thousands of people in teaching and studies, among them “stars” from the history of art, design, and architecture, as well as relative unknown names.
With an encyclopedic arrangement of the topical points, the exhibition highlights the vicissitudes of the Angewandte’s history and the developments it begat and begets. Up-to-date videos to convey a sense of contemporary education, showcase student projects, and give glimpses into life at the Angewandte.
The Angewandte: 150 Plus Thirty
The second part of the jubilee exhibition in the MAK’s upper Exhibition Hall, curated by Gerald Bast and Peter Weibel, outlines theses for the future and advocates for a reorientation of education, art, and society. Three chapters present aggregated trends. The exhibition focuses on current and visionary research, in addition to contemporary artistic positions.

checkpointmedia implemented a comprehensive Smarthome solution for a private apartment in Vienna. In addition to high-quality audio and video, central data storage and the installation of a WLAN, the solution also included the integration and control of numerous other building services. The alarm and intercom system, lighting, roller blinds, ventilation, heating and air conditioning can be operated and controlled via touch and key panels. A configurable Ecomodus with time control is also available for longer absence times.Particular attention has been paid to ensuring that the necessary technology remains invisible as far as possible. For this reason, in addition to invisible loudspeakers, a special design of a TV lift was realised, which makes the large-screen display in the living room disappear inside a piece of furniture when it is not needed.
Bankhaus Spängler, founded in 1828 and still family-owned, is an independent private bank with its head office in Salzburg and branches in ten other locations. checkpointmedia developed the prototype for an innovative display window for the historic headquarters in Schwarzstraße, Salzburg.
A case that can be illuminated from the rear contains a faceted structure consisting of translucent Plexiglass sheets on which printed film is stuck. These feature a collage of images from the bank’s long history that come from the firm’s in-house archives.
Each of the 20 cells can be illuminated separately using RGBW LED lamps in any combination of colours. Judicious colour selection allows a single printed image to appear as two, for instance by using green lighting to eliminate the green print while the red is accentuated all the more. In this way, changing the lighting can produce the effect of slowly-shifting iridescence across the images.
A 55-inch monitor rounds off the visual display with a corresponding animated film. The brightness of the lighting and the monitor changes to match the time of day. The images – both on the film covering the Plexiglass sheets and the animated film – can be changed to reflect the changing seasons and modified for years to come.
aspern Die Seestadt Wiens, Vienna’s “Laketown”, is currently the biggest urban development project in the whole of Europe. Due for completion in 2028, high-quality housing for over 20,000 people is being created in several phases along with an equal number of jobs.
And as the Seestadt grows, its internet presence must develop too. checkpointmedia has now combined the previously separate sites of the Seestadt Wien, the development company responsible, wien 3420 AG, and the local district management to form a single site with a modern look.
The business section “Wirtschaftsstandort” is an informative portal for all interested investors and project developers. The “Lebenswelt” section contains everything that those already living or working there (and of course anyone else with an interest) need to know about the Seestadt.
An in-depth blog (meine.seestadt.info) offers reports on the wide range of activities in the Seestadt. Map tools provide information on the developments so far and those planned for the future.
“70 projections for 70 years”: Under the artistic direction of Virgil Widrich, a multi-disciplinary team designed the event and a partly interactive travelling exhibition for the Austria Wirtschaftsservice Gesellschaft mbH (ERP Fund).
On 5 June 1947 George Marshall made a speech in Harvard that changed the world: with it, the American Secretary of State and adviser to President Truman laid the foundations of the European Recovery Program (ERP) – the so-called Marshall Plan. Austria’s economy continues to benefit from these funds to this day, which are used to promote innovative projects by Austrian companies and start-ups under a scheme for ERP loans granted by the Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws).
The festivities marking the 70th anniversary of Marshall Plan aid – with addresses by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, Vice-Chancellor Wolfgang Brandstetter and Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the US Embassy in Vienna Eugene S. Young – demonstrate this connection between the past and the future. The team, consisting of multimedia experts, exhibition organisers, set designers and event specialists, created a total artwork that includes not just the event itself, which was attended by around 800 guests, but also the presentation of an exhaustive book on the subject and a travelling exhibition for use in schools and other public institutions. For the exhibition the subject matter was prepared with the aid of scientific consultants for presentation on 12 pillars and 3 media stations. A display using overhead projectors and pictures from the extensive archives of the Austrian National Library rounded the event off. Besides the requisite printed material (invitations and the like) a special-issue postage stamp was also designed to mark the anniversary.
On 21/6/2017 the ceremony marking 70 years of the Marshall Plan took place at METAStadt Wien with addresses by Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen, Vice-Chancellor Wolfgang Brandstetter and Chargé d’Affaires a.i. at the US Embassy in Vienna Eugene S. Young. checkpointmedia designed the printed invitations, a carrier bag and a special-issue stamp as part of the agency’s artistic direction of the event.
Following construction work lasting two and a half years, the new giraffe park in the historic centre of Schönbrunn Zoo opened on 10 May 2017. checkpointmedia devised and produced the enclosure’s GirApp, an interactive media station for children and teenagers. A quiz consisting of 25 questions supplies interesting facts about the giraffes. The giraffe figures are largely animated and communicate with users by making comments on the quiz answers they enter. The “run animation” shows the giraffe’s two gaits, walking and galloping, very realistically.
The website of the Vienna Boys’ Choir www.wsk.at provides users with news, the choirs’ schedule, an online shop and multimedia features about the Choir.
In 2017, the site was given an overhaul and relaunched. checkpointmedia is responsible for the overall concept, graphics and implementation. In the course of the project the website was completely restructured and responsive functions were incorporated, meaning that it is now entirely compatible with handheld devices. The graphics follow the new overall concept which was also applied to the websites of the Vienna Boys’ Choir ball (ball.wsk.at) and of the Choir’s benefactors (philanthropie.wsk.at).
The practical implementation focused on optimising the site for handheld devices and restructuring the online shop.
User-friendly browsing and purchases in the shop are now possible on smartphones. Further websites for topics relating to the Vienna Boys’ Choir are planned for this year.
For the BANFF Mountain Film Festival Tour 2017, checkpointmedia installed interactive technology in a mobile installation made of cedar wood for the furniture manufacturers Auer. The “Tirol Lightbox” was conceived and designed by Snohetta architects for Tirol Werbung. “Cutting vertically through mountains produces Tyrol’s pulse rate, and the pulse changes during the ascent of the mountain, too.”
Vertical dimmable light lamellae pulse, reveal mountain crests as seen from the side and react to the approach of people which also causes fragments of sound to be played. The interiors of the installation are black and mirrored, causing these pulse beats to multiply indefinitely and drawing the visitor into an interaction with the mountain landscape and its sounds.
On 5 June 1947 George Marshall made a speech in Harvard that changed the world: with it, the American Secretary of State and adviser to President Truman laid the foundations of the European Recovery Program (ERP) – the so-called Marshall Plan. Austria’s economy continues to benefit from these funds to this day, which are used to promote innovative projects by Austrian companies and start-ups under a scheme for ERP loans granted by the Austria Wirtschaftsservice GmbH (aws).
checkpointmedia has created the “Faktencheck nachhaltiges Bauen” (sustainable construction fact check) for the Climate and Energy Fund. With this, the salient points of the corresponding printed version are now available online.

While their stadium in the Viennese district of Favoriten is being extensively refurbished, the traditional Viennese football club Austria Vienna has come up with something new: ViolaPoint, a pop-up store in Vienna’s biggest shopping centre, aims to bring the club closer to their fans. Following the grand opening on 4 October 2016, ViolaPoint provides access to full information and the online shops of FK Austria Vienna. At the opening, Austria AG president Markus Kraetschmer said: “This is an innovation and something completely new for us, too. So the fans’ reaction is absolutely vital to us. It’s important that we are given feedback and can develop the site accordingly in future. We have designed ViolaPoint to be flexible."
checkpointmedia has developed a concept for the community of Schwaz in Tyrol for the further development of the community's appearance as a "silver city". In several workshops and in cooperation with experts as well as accompanied by a development study, which examined the economic and touristic aspects, possible projects were developed, which should make the today's and historical meaning of the municipality Schwaz accessible to a wider public. The Silver Region has been attracting visitors for many decades with its fascinating history and the impressive landscape attracts numerous visitors from home and abroad. The aim was to find answers to the changing tourist environment (e.g. due to the economic situation, new target groups such as Golden Agers, changed habits due to Web 2.0 etc.) and innovative presentation possibilities for the future.
A journey through Vienna on the coffee house table, animated by Virgil Widrich on behalf of Vienna’s Staff Office International Strategy and Coordination.
"The coffee table is a microcosm of Vienna, because basically you do not need to leave the coffee house to travel once through the whole of Vienna. This idea eventually led to the idea of a miniature journey through the city, staged with saucers, cups, plates, knives, forks and souvenirs – garnished with projected memories and the many starters, main courses and desserts one can so often find here. Special exhibition "Rock Me Amadeus. The Story" from 9 March to 16 May 2016
Mozart and Falco – on the trail of two musical geniuses
In March 1986 Falco hit the top of the US Billboard charts and the British Top 40 with his song "Rock Me Amadeus". To mark the 30th anniversary of this success, Mozarthaus Vienna in association with the Falco Privatstiftung is dedicating a special exhibition to the Austrian artist from 9 March to 16 May Mai 2016 that presents the story behind the international hit.
checkpointmedia has provided a synchronised audio-video installation for the exhibition that also controls the light scenarios.
The large-scale media installation "Figaro Parallelo" allows a comparison of recent productions of "The Marriage of Figaro": Salzburger Festspiele (2006), Opernhaus Zürich (2007), Gran Teatro La Fenice di Venezia (2011), Festival d’Aix-en-Provence (2012), Wiener Staatsoper (2013), The Metropolitan Opera New York (2014) and Royal Opera House Covent Garden (2015). In the centre is the historical Figaro as a starting point and mirror projection in a model stage inspired by the 2011 production at the Gran Teatro La Fenice di Venezia.
For the third time, checkpointmedia and Holzmanufaktur - Vitrinenbau Auer, a specialist manufacturer of high quality museum and exhibition hardware, presented their projects and their expertise at a joint exhibition stand at EXPONATEC COLOGNE.
EXPONATEC COLOGNE is the leading trade fair for museums, conservation and heritage, a showcase for the industry’s time-honoured knowhow and best-practice examples. The Faktencheck Energiewende ("Energy revolution fact check") was published as a website with interactive charts for the first time in 2014. Now the 2015 fact check is available with updated figures.
checkpointmedia again took on the task of creating the website. On it, the charts created for the print version, each of which presents one fact relating to the topic of energy supply, have been adapted and optimised for the web. The responsive web design means the site can also be viewed and used on mobile terminals.
For the exhibition "A Rush of Color – Masterpieces of German Expressionism" (9 October 2015 - 11 January 2016 at the Leopold Museum) Virgil Widrich designed a media installation consisting of a disc, 3 rings and a projection with shifting perspectives.
Extension and conversion of the media technology in the "Attic Floor" of the KAICIID. checkpointmedia revised and expanded the media technology on the upper floor to include numerous new functions and created and implemented a modern design and operating concept for the control panels in the respective rooms. These provide access to the technology, which is mainly located in a central technical room. The existing technology was reused as far as possible, but the entire facility was completely newly planned and installed. User-friendly scenarios are stored on the control panels to enable untrained personnel to use the room for presentations or video conferences. Experienced personnel, on the other hand, have an extended mode at their disposal that allows full access to the installed media and building technology. Two small and one large conference rooms can be connected separately or together to form one room. The control or access to the media technology follows the room configuration at the push of a button, so that e.g. volume changes are always possible for combined rooms together.
The Vienna Boys' Choir is steeped in tradition: it is one of the oldest boys' choirs not affiliated to a church or college. For centuries, it has trained children and adolescents.
To maintain its high educational standards in the long term, the Choir needs support. Private individuals and companies now have the chance to contribute via philanthropie.wsk.at.
Besides the donation form with a link to the payment service provider mpay24, the website features an information section that tells visitors what the Choir could do with the donations it receives.
In addition, donors can dedicate their contributions to a specific purpose that is especially important to them, such as the scholarship fund or the purchase of new instruments. Donors can also be personally named on the site if they so wish.
checkpointmedia is responsible for the design and implementation of the responsive website with the donation form, news, project and donor database.
The Tyrol-based interior designers Norer GmbH present themselves on their new website as suppliers of all-round solutions for interiors. The website was created by checkpointmedia.
For this, the printed version of the report was used. The site was created using a content management system that checkpointmedia had adapted for the first online edition and which enables the export of the static pages (from a magazine) of the printed report.
The online company report was created in cooperation with Mensalia business consultants.
In that time, investigation of Hallstatt as an economic centre and of the Hallstatt textiles have established themselves as further fields of research. The new website www.nhm-wien.ac.at/hallstatt contains full details about this archaeological treasure trove.
checkpointmedia is responsible for creating this site, whose design is modelled on the Museum's main site. Pictorial information was adapted to create interactive images, and videos and 3-dimensional graphics have been added to provide a comprehensive overview of the research activities, the landscape and especially the steps leading down to the salt mine, which are the oldest surviving set of wooden steps in Europe.
Apart from information on the research that has been done, the website also offers an overview of current activities and serves as a platform for networking with blogs and other sites about Hallstatt.
All input devices are now scanned in standardized form via checkpointmedia's own tried-and-tested "Hapticontrol" interface and All input devices are now scanned in standardized form via checkpointmedia's own tried-and-tested "Hapticontrol" interface and their data relayed to the playback PCs. checkpointmedia carried out not only the hardware modifications, but also the adaptation of the stations' s software.
All of Beethoven's symphonies received their premieres in Vienna. RE-SOUND Beethoven is bringing them back for the first time to the magnificent theatres and concert halls where they were premiered and performs them on the instruments used when they were written.
The website contains full information on RE-SOUND's concerts and performances, the artists and others involved, and a press review. checkpointmedia took on the design and programming of the site, which is based on the style of the Wiener Akademie website.
The project initiators are Gerald Bast, rector of the University of Applied Arts, along with Elias Carayannis and David Campbell.
Besides the initiators and their aims, the website presents the series of books that carries the same name. The volumes will be published at regular intervals by Springer Verlag. In addition, the website shows current activities relating to the A.R.I.S. project such as book presentations and includes a blog with which the site can also be used as a platform for discussions on the subject.
checkpointmedia was responsible for the site's concept, design, logo development and technical implementation.

Following a bidding procedure involving several stages, the consortium of checkpointmedia Multimediaproduktionen AG / OMS Objektmanagement Service GmbH was commissioned in June 2013 as sole contractor for the design, construction and furnishing of the new museum.
Architecture
The architect Gustav Pichelmann created a museum entrance via a ramp placed laterally to the main steps and at a slight angle and running counter to the existing ramp, and via a flight of stairs, both of which are marked by tall, light-coloured steles. The ramp is bordered by concrete and natural stone blocks which emphasize the nearly 30-metre-long "way down". The construction makes a clear statement without impinging on the historical building in any way.
The museum is set at a level half a metre above the original historical basement floor. A catwalk leads off from the foyer into the museum itself, guiding visitors through the exhibition above floor level and enabling them to view exhibits, display cases and media stations from this vantage point. While the room itself remains darkened, the exhibits and display cases are illuminated by white light and the catwalk is bathed in a warm yellowish light.
Museum Concept
Here, visitors follow the various stages of bereavement in the narrative section: died – mourned – borne – buried – remembered.
Over 250 original artefacts, plus visual material from the archives of the Vienna undertaking services and cemeteries, are on display in the museum, many of them for the first time. They include an original fourgon (a coach used as a hearse) from the turn of the twentieth century. Numerous uniforms, from the elaborate livery based on Spanish courtly ceremonies to today's simple gown, are on show. A stiletto for pricking the heart and an alarm for ringing if the "deceased" wakes up again are bizarre relics of a time when the fear of being buried alive was widespread. A reusable coffin dating from 1784, the period of Joseph II, gives visitors an idea of how Mozart was buried. A bill issued by the imperial court for the repatriation and burial of Franz Ferdinand and his wife following their assassination in Sarajevo is exhibited as a truly historical document.
Multimedia
On thirteen monitors, videos play, most of which consist of material that has never been shown before. These include excerpts from the Austrian Film Archive, with recently discovered and restored footage of the funeral of Franz Joseph I and the sumptuous funeral procession for Albert Baron Rothschild. The videos complement the exhibits and place them in the context of the period they originate from.
A video installation consisting of audiovisual elements and real objects presents notices of death from various centuries. From the wife of a house-owner to Ernst Haeussermann, former director of the Burgtheater, the grief that follows a person's death has never changed, although the way this grief is expressed has.
Two historical peep shows present the various classes of funeral in the style of the time. A three-dimensional display made up of elements of a stage set, lighting moods and 3D video fade-ins presents the splendour of the resting in repose of members of high society around the turn of the twentieth century – and how it contrasts with the funerals of lesser mortals.
On an audio station visitors can listen to the songs that are currently most popular at funerals.
Construction
The museum has a total floor area of a little over 500m², of which 300m² are taken up by the permanent exhibition. Approximately 16 tons of melted asphalt, 130m³ of concrete and 15km of cable were used, while 3km of ducts for ventilation, heating and water were installed. Every hour around 3600m³ of air is circulated in order to maintain an appropriate atmosphere for the historical exhibits, some of which are delicate. The time that elapsed between the submissions and the commissioning was 395 days in total, and the building costs amounted to roughly €2.5 million. Installing a state-of-the-art museum in the basement of a historical building presented a particular challenge, entailing as it did the instalment of an enormous amount of technical equipment in such a way that it remains hidden and the restoration of the existing inventory.
The Wiener Bestattungsmuseum (Vienna Funeral Museum) at the Zentralfriedhof (Central Cemetery) not only provides information about the culture of funerals and cemeteries in Vienna through its original artefacts and historical images, but also showcases the idiosyncratic way the Viennese have of dealing with death. Its location, at Europe's second-biggest cemetery, the Vienna Zentralfriedhof, also provides an incentive to take a tour round the Cemetery afterwards.
Climate and energy policy has reached a watershed. The 2015 UN Climate Conference in Paris is expected to define the targets for a worldwide agreement on climate protection and cutting greenhouse gases. In this context, the discussion surrounding the route to be followed by the European Union's climate and energy policy assumes greater global importance.
The Faktencheck Energiewende ("Energy revolution fact check") is available as a summary, fact sheet and website with interactive charts and has the aim of taking the discussion on the future of energy supply to a new level and of introducing relevant arguments into it.
checkpointmedia is responsible for creating the website www.faktencheck-energiewende.at. On the site, the ten charts created for the print version, each of which presents one fact relating to the topic of energy supply, have been adapted and optimised for the web. The site can also be viewed and used on mobile terminals thanks to responsive web design.
Since the opening on 13 September 2014, the museum - which is located in the former tram sheds in Erdberg - has a new sparkle. The listed building houses one of the largest collections of historical vehicles in Europe at the same time as offering visitors a modern museum with plenty of hands-on exhibits.
The displays feature underground trains, buses and trams from a bygone age. Theme islands accompany visitors of all ages with texts, images, multimedia content and games through 150 years of history: from the first journey on the horse-drawn railway and the famous "Americans" of the post-war era through to underground train design, the Silver Arrow and a glimpse of public transport in the future.

After being responsible for the technical concept and implementation of the MAK website in 2012, on May 12, 2014 checkpointmedia put the new website MAK DESIGN LAB online.
The website is programmed in responsive design and integrated into the existing MAK website.
As special features two applications, which are connected to the local installations (iPads) in the DESIGN LAB, were installed. In doing so, via interfaces data is synchronized between the local iPad installations provided by Nous and the Website. One application, called “Eating and Drinking”, allows you to vote for place settings from the last five centuries, download it and print it as placemats.
The application “Collecting” provides a selection of the most beautiful fabric designs of the Biedermeier period in high quality, made available as common property by MAK.
Dagmar Schratter, the zoo director, said: „As a scientific zoo with an educational responsibility, we have the chance to inform our guests about why protecting species and our environment is so important.“
In the so called „Polar Dome“, located in the center of the new enclosure with barrier-free access, visitors can watch polar bears, seals and penguins on different floors. Here at the information center visitors can also find out more about polar bears, the impact of climate change on polar bears and their sensitive artic habitat.
While exhibition design and concept was planned by Studio Kudlich, checkpointmedia installed all media stations: documentary films about tracking polar bears via PBI, polar expeditions, glacier calving and polar caps melting as well as the course of the seasons at the north and south poles.
In addition, acoustic signals of animal and polar sounds were installed and projection showcases integrated, interactive games like „Catch the krill“ and the animal sound quiz were implemented. A projection of polar bear paws and an interactive table in the middle of the Polar Dome complete the exhibition. Here, children of all ages can play several games (Ice Wall, Attention! Penguins, To the Pole by Ship) or paint a picture of aurora, or learn more about the history of polar exhibitions in the „Race to the Poles“.
An almost 3-minute animated film marks the 50th anniversary of Silhouette International Schmied AG, whisking the viewer on a rousing journey through the history of the world’s leading brand in light eyewear. The film depicts each decadal chapter in the company’s history using a unique graphic style.
The 1960s: the largely French influenced fashion of the time led to the internationally catchy name, Silhouette, being chosen at the launch of this Austrian, family-owned company. The prevailing lifestyle of consumption swiftly led to worldwide export of the eyewear.
The 1970s were epitomized by a new feeling of freedom: ‘love, peace and music’ was the maxim of the day. The motto ‘think pink’, take it easy, inspired the creation of the first rimless frames – a concept that would become Silhouette’s core competence.
1980s fashion was characterised by a boom in fitness clothing, whilst masculine looking eyewear was designed to summon more respect and space for a woman. ‘Enlightenment’ was provided with new materials such as the SPX plastic, specially developed by Silhouette for its eyewear.
The 1990s saw Silhouette creating eyewear decor with African wild animal patterns, transforming puristic spectacles by providing them with never-before-seen lightness and technical perfection, and finally launching a technological masterpiece onto the market with the first Titan Minimal Art eyewear.
In the 2000s, Titan Minimal Art was launched into outer space on 35 separate NASA missions and since the end of the decade the barely felt, hingeless and rimless eyewear has graced modern faces on the Earth too.
checkpointmedia reimplements the online version of the Austrian Post Annual Report 2013, which now includes a printed version of the report.
The content management system orginally developed by checkpointmedia for the first online version of the report was used to export the printed version as static pages (magazine section).
Online implementation of the annual report was carried out in collaboration with Mensalia Unternehmungsberatung GmbH.
The Austrian Museum of Folk Life and Folk Art was founded in 1895 by Michael Haberlandt and Wilhelm Hein and since then has occupied an important place among museums of European culture. The museum now has an innovative, state-of-the-art web presence thanks to the relaunch of its website by checkpointmedia and Peach Kommunikationsagentur GmbH (Design).
As prime contractor, checkpointmedia was responsible for the conceptual design as well as the technical implementation of the website using Jart. The site provides a clear overview of current exhibitions thanks to an integrated calendar module. It also contains a flexible article system allowing users to select, list and sort contents according to different criteria. The innovative design has freed up more space for the large number of images, which are now the focal point of the website.
checkpointmedia creates a website for ELIN Motoren GmbH, as commissioned by Linzer SPS Marketing GmbH. The website has been responsively conceived and created, with large format pictures being central to the design. Calculation tools for motors have been integrated and the project has been implemented using CMS Typo3.
For the many opera lovers from Austria and abroad who come to Vienna to see a performance, their visit is incomplete without a subsequent tour of the Vienna State Opera. checkpointmedia has created around 20 different, high resolution, 360-degree panoramas, from rooftop views of Vienna to tours of the auditorium, below stage, the flies and the cellar. The tour affords visitors an inside look at the lesser known, elusive and inaccessible recesses of the opera house on the Ring as well as the rehearsal stage in the Arsenal.
Extremely good resolution and the unusual way the camera focuses on objects means that the smallest details can be spotted and closely studied. An integrated motion sensor allows tablet-users to find their way around as if they were actually there in person. The virtual tour can also be experienced using a conventional mouse and keyboard.
Hotspots providing background information are located at every station of the tour. Here users can find details about the statues and ceiling murals of the grand staircase, the technicalities of stage machinery, and much more.
Visitors are treated to particularly spectacular vistas as a result of automatic panning.
checkpointmedia has ensured that the high standards which typify the Hofburg Vienna are reflected in the newly created website. The site, which is availabe in German and English, is compatible with all resolutions (responsive web design) and the streamlined navigation, pared down to four main areas, has been designed to facilitate content searches.
A special highlight are the aerial tours, created with Google Earth and incorporated into the website–a tour begins from each of the three Hofburg entrances. Additional integrated video sequences, which show the Hofburg in 3D - floor by floor with sophisticated, realistic exterior facades (created using photo texturization) - allow the full extent of the individual floors including entrances, foyers, main rooms and side rooms to be appreciated.
An extensive application provides a clearer overview of all the rooms in the Hofburg, displayed in the form of a fact list with key information together with floor plans. The location of the selected room or group of rooms is shown on the floor plan and helpful info icons can be additionally displayed. Each floor can also be viewed individually and enlarged as required. Thanks to responsive web design, the floor plans are seamlessly compatible with all resolutions and browsers. Integrated virtual tours bring the individual rooms to life–so that one feels as if one were really there - and can be experienced with different seating setups (theatre, classroom or banquet style).
The website offers extensive information and assistance regarding organising events as well as information about the Hofburg itself. Special attention has been given to the presentation of directions on how to get to the Hofburg, which have been compiled using Google Maps. Users can customize their own routes, which can also be sent by email.
The website also provides a revised event calendar, an extensive image section with photo galleries updated daily and categorized search results.

“Tag des Denkmals” (“Monument Day”) is Austria’s contribution to the European Heritage Days (EHD) initiative and the sole large-scale event for material heritage in Austria.
Once a year the Austrian Federal Office for the Preservation of Monuments organises Tag des Denkmals. The site www.tagdesdenkmals.at is the first of three home pages to be relaunched. The website, which is programmed with responsive design and uses the TYPO3 content management framework, has been expanded to include new features, information and images relating to Austrian events. A back-end has also been programmed for bookings made online or by phone in order to facilitate the central administration of registration inquiries for Tag des Denkmals.
“LERNORT DENKMAL” (literally, “Monument Learning Centre”) is the cultural education programme of the Austrian Federal Office for the Preservation of Monuments. Its aims include encouraging school pupils to become more familiar with their own culture, history and environment and to gain better understanding and greater respect for them.
LERNORT DENKMAL follows TAG DES DENKMALS as the second website created by checkpointmedia for the Austrian Federal Office for the Preservation of Monuments. It too has been created using Typo3 and has a similar layout to the TAG DES DENKMALS site with the aim of ensuring that all three portals have a a uniform appearance. LERNORT DENKMAL is not a relaunch but a new website specific to this topic, which was previously integrated in the Federal Office’s general website.
checkpointmedia develops and installs a new music workshop with three studios for experimenta Heilbronn.
The workshop provides children and grown-ups with the chance to form their own bands and create their own songs in five different musical styles. Visitors can arrange and compose new songs by choosing from a wide variety of preset bars (sequences of notes, sounds), which can be used in individual song sections depending on the style and instruments selected.
After the visit, the songs are available as a score and can also be downloaded as audio files via a link. All the songs are stored in a database, allowing visitors to listen to and rate any song they wish on the “jukebox”.
The task facing checkpointmedia was to make work with music and the development of songs accessible to people with no musical knowledge. The experience is made complete by the creation of a studio atmosphere with soundproofed walls, high-end audio equipment and user interfaces based on professional audio software.
Visitors are greeted at the studio terminals and begin by picking up their audio equipment which consists of headphones, controller, cable and instrument connector. Songs can be composed alone, with the aid of the computer or with a band of up to four members. The music workshop’s mascot, the little rock star, accompanies visitors throughout the workshop, offering tips, explaining procedures and recommending ways of developing the song arrangement and structure.
For each musical style, four instruments are available which correspond to a complete band’s line-up. The musical styles ressemble those of well-known groups and artists from the international charts.
The equipment is wired up to the studios, the software providing live feedback via every connector. Instructions are entered on a touch screen and by means of a controller specially developed by checkpointmedia. The controller is used to program and listen back to instrument tracks. Thousands of variations are available for use in any combination. As soon as they are selected on the screen, the variations are displayed as musical notation. All the variations are available as MIDI files, which allow the appropriate instrument sound to be produced in real time by means of a sample database.
The Essl Museum with its 7,000 exhibited works from the Essl Collection is one of the most important private museums of contemporary art in the world.
The entire website has been relaunched using a concept developed by checkpointmedia. The programming and design, both by checkpointmedia, have given the website a new look and provided it with a host of enhanced functions. The comprehensive art education programme has been revised and given a clearer layout. The newly integrated calendar showcases the wide range of activities taking place at the Essl Museum, which include musical performances and readings as well as exhibitions. One of the main aims in the creation of the new website was to provide more space for the images. The artist archive with biographies written by the Essl Museum’s experts has also been redesigned.
The website’s other special features include a relational data structure linking exhibitions, catalogues, dates and artists and which allows the user to be more intuitively guided through the website, and a bookshop with shopping cart and payment interface.
The website, which has been programmed in Jart with responsive design, can be accessed on a variety of terminals. The graphic structure created by checkpointmedia is so flexible that it adapts itself perfectly to the monitor characteristics of computers, tablets and smartphones and so provides optimum user-friendliness.
The University of Applied Arts purposefully pushes the envelope with its “TransArts" bachelor and master’s degree courses.
TransArts is an art course whose educational content and form reflect the dynamics in the arts today. It teaches unity and diversity in theory and practice and recognizes not least the mutually reinforcing and competitive interdependency of different artistic disciplines.
Together with the graphic artist Rainer Dempf, checkpointmedia is breaking new ground with the new TransArts website. The site is graphically reduced and pared down to essentials, maximising the impact of the visual content.
The site content is clearly structured so that key information about the course is easy to find, with highlights from students’ projects being presented in the form ofa gallery. In addition, an integrated automatic scheduler controls the timetable of events shown on the start page.
A special database link has also been programmed for the administration of activities, visitors and students.
checkpointmedia has developed and designed an online ticket system in English and German for the Natural History Museum Vienna. A payment interface with a link to mPAY24 has been integrated into the ordering process so that payment can be made quickly and easily by credit card, EPS (online banking) or paybox (mobile banking). Following payment, the ticket can immediately be downloaded from the website and is also dispatched at the same time by e-mail.
On the ticket there is a bar code which the visitor scans at the museum entrance, either from the printed version of the ticket or from the visitor’s mobile. The hand-held scanners (Motorola MT2090) have been programmed to configurable museum entrances and can detect whether ticket numbers are invalid or have already been scanned, withthe relevant information being shown on the screen (number of attempted scans, date, time). If the bar code cannot be read, a function for manually entering the code is available.
The scanning software by the firm of suite* - Agentur für interaktive Medien has been adapted to the client’s requirements and configured accordingly.
All ticket orders are managed in the database of the content management system (JART), which also makes it possible to create daily practical reports. In addition, the database sends importable files directly to the client’s point of sale, allowing online orders to be integrated into the museum’s own system.

In conjunction with the new mobile version of the website, WIFO’s research findings are now available in an attractive form to a wide audience in English and German.
Following the creation of the new website and the WordPress blog for the Albertina in 2012, checkpointmedia has now produced a mobile version of the gallery’s website. With it, the Albertina makes the most important parts of the desktop version available for Smartphones. Users can study all the events taking place at the gallery in the mobile calendar module, order tickets by text message, and surf around the principal exhibits of current exhibitions.
The mobile website was created, designed and optimised for Android and iOS by checkpointmedia in JART CMS/JART Framework.
For the first time, checkpointmedia has created the online edition of the Austrian Post Office’s annual report. For this, the printed version of the report was used. The website was created using a content management system, specially adapted for the purpose by checkpointmedia, which allowed the export of the printed report which consisted of static pages (magazine section). Video statements were added and the reports' figures section integrated into the site.
The online company report was created in cooperation with Mensalia business consultants.
Fans of schlager music can find all the information they desire on their favourite stars at www.schlagerfreunde.at and can order CDs directly from the integrated Amazon shop. The site highlights are the modern media in the header and the event database. Here tickets for the various events can be booked using Ö-Ticket.
All the articles on the website are centrally managed in a database and can be linked up with each other. The press section is automatically generated from the CMS articles, which makes the editors’ work easier.
The website was designed and programmed by checkpointmedia.
More than 2,000 undergraduates study at the University of Applied Arts. The wide range of arts disciplines, which is supplemented by a large number of science subjects, contributes to the unique atmosphere at the University.
checkpointmedia’s technology and web department installed two upright info screens in the University’s auditorium and side entrance. The screens are 55” monitors with strong brilliance. The text and images are supplied via a locally installed content management system (JART). The particularly strong brilliance of the monitors and the large lettering make reading easy even from a distance.
Both screens display current activities at the University. The information itself can be selected directly from the website by the editors and can be pre-defined using a timer control. A variety of different types of media can be used to present the information: the screens show not only texts and photo galleries but also videos and live streams. Particular attention was paid to the appliances’ reliability: the most recently synchronised content is displayed even when there is no connection to the network.
The content is provided using the new version of JART, Version 4. Database items can be selected several times and loaded onto the info screens, so that the list of daily and weekly events is generated almost automatically.
FOCUS Management Advisory is a firm of consultants specialising in supporting clients in the fields of increased growth and earnings, reorganisation, cost-cutting and change-management processes.

“base-level – Creating Space // Raum schaffen” is a new and challenging platform for artists and helps them gain a foothold in the art market.
checkpointmedia took on the design and implementation of the website relaunch.
The major challenge was the creation of the site’s “timeline”, a database-supported calendar application. With it, events can be displayed on a time axis. By clicking on one of the period fields, users can see detailed information on the events.
The project was carried out using the new JART Version 4.
In 2012 checkpointmedia carried out a number of improvements to the website of the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
Besides the setting up of new domains (such as http://www.viennaboyschoir.at), a new module was developed which makes the creation of information timelines – such as the history of the Vienna Boys’ Choir and the advent calendar – easier and more flexible.
As a result of the upgrade, the diary now has more space and is more clearly laid out. The photo galleries have been enhanced and to keep up-to-date with social media, Facebook and YouTube buttons have been integrated into the homepage. In addition, a new Vienna Boys’ Choir newsletter has been designed and created.
checkpointmedia creates the new website of Ristorante Sole – the cult Italian restaurant in Annagasse in Vienna’s first district.
Besides presenting the menu and background information on Aki Nuredini, the man behind the restaurant, the site lists the restaurant’s most famous guests: under the heading “Gästebuch” (Guestbook) prominent guests can be selected by category and viewed in a visually attractive format.
The website and its database were created using the JART content management system. The graphics are by Kate Kronreif.
The master programme "Applied Media Design - Art & Science" creates synergies between different visual cultures. Students learn to apply research approaches to model and theory construction in the arts and sciences.
Two years after its creation, the website was given its first major relaunch. This involved converting the existing site into a fully relational database model so that students’ personal portfolios can be generated and presented automatically from the database. In addition, a factbox displays relational key words as graphics on the website itself.
In 2001 and 2003 the Technische Museum Wien acquired the photographic legacy of motor sport photographers Artur Fenzlau (1909-1984) and Erwin Jelinek (1907-1989). The photographic material has been supplemented with hundreds of racing programmes and lists of winners. Roughly 160,000 photos from the collection have been scanned and made available digitally.
checkpointmedia created the website, which incorporates an integrated databank solution. The website has a register of more than 350 people, a venue register and a filter function for specific time periods, which facilitate accurate and efficient searching.
Commissioned by the WSK Konzertsaal Errichtungs GmbH, checkpointmedia installs audio, video and lighting equipment in the “MuTh”, the music and theatre venue of the Vienna Boys’ Choir.
checkpointmedia technicians worked on the MuTh building site for five months from the beginning of July to the end of December 2012.
The concert hall has been fully fitted with audio equipment, lighting, video projection equipment, a communication system and a media controller. At the heart of the sound system is the mixing desk by the renowned English manufacturer SSL, which is custom-made for the MuTh and is a one-off piece. Besides the auditorium mix, this desk also has up to 27 outputs for the sound system and enables complex routings for the purpose of recording or broadcasting.
The sound system includes 23 loudspeakers by Kling&Freitag installed as fixed appliances. These speakers can be used for music or cinema surround sound (Dolby 7.1). Over 90 spotlights by ADB and ETC illuminate the stage and provide correct lighting for performers. The spots are controlled by the grandMA, an exceptionally flexible lighting control console. Movies are projected onto a 10-metre-wide screen by a Barco HDX-W14 projector. The projector is built into the balustrade.
Much of what checkpointmedia has installed is hidden from the audience’s view, such as the technical room, which is located below the stage and is the technical core of the building. All the cables needed for lighting, sound and video come together in this room. Together, they have a total length of over 29 km.
Besides installing various AV elements, checkpointmedia also planned and programmed a flexible media control system, with which the most important parameters, such as lighting, video and audio, can be controlled from different places in the building. For instance, the house lights can be switched on or off from the stage manager’s position and the projector and media player can be operated by remote control.
The WordPress blog that checkpointmedia has designed and created for the Albertina enables the curators to write their own personal accompanying texts on exhibitions, events and other topics concerning the gallery.
The blog features a classic, no-nonsense design that provides an apt framework forexperts’ articles and contributions. The comment function gives interested readers the opportunity to communicate with the authors directly.
The blog is a living communications tool for rapid, first-hand information and a valuable addition to the existing website.
Vienna’s new location for music and theatre – the concert hall of the Vienna Boys’ Choir – opens its doors for the first time on 9 December 2012. The name of the concert hall on the southernmost tip of the Augarten was first announced in a press conference on 9 November 2012 and, according to its director Elke Hesse, represents the link between music and theatre: MuTh.
In cooperation with Penthouse Perfection (Graphiksdesign), checkpointmedia created the concept for the new website in keeping with the MuTh’s new CI and handled the technical implementation of the site. A specially designed database facilitates the organisation of productions taking place in the concert hall and dates. Additionally, a ticket shop was integrated into the site in conjunction with Wien-Ticket. The free publishing system Wordpress was used as the basis of the ticketing system, and a special plug-in designed for management of the event database.
Guido Kucsko, artist and legal expert in the field of intellectual property, creates works that offer an artistic reflection on various aspects of intellectual property. His works on this unusual topic can be seen at various venues including the Tresor of the Bank Austria Kunstforum.
checkpointmedia has developed a website for Guido Kucsko that focuses on what is most important: his art. The website is implemented using JART, a Java-based XML application framework, and features numerous video clips that provide an insight into Kucsko’s work as an artist. In addition, the site provides descriptions of his lectures (he is a lecturer at Vienna University) as well as information on his published works.
The Competence Centre for Intellectual Property (ipCompetence) was founded in 2001 on the initiative and with the support of the Veranstalterverband Österreich (Alliance of Music Promoters in Austria) and acts as a scientific platform upholding promoters’ rights.? ?
To enable downloading and browsing of the ipCompetence journal, checkpointmedia created an iPad app with a PDF framework, adapting it to the latest iOS version.? ?
The app consists of a site map showing all the thumbnails of previous editions of the journal. These can be downloaded and deleted at a later date as required. User-friendliness was a key consideration in the app’s design: the journals can be read horizontally and vertically and reading is facilitated by text zoom, search and rapid navigation functions.
As one of the world’s foremost museums of natural history, the Natural History Museum Vienna looks after 30 million artefacts and specimens that form the basis of extensive scientific research. Its oldest collections date back over 250 years.
For the reopening of the world’s largest and oldest collection of meteorites on 14 November 2012, the vast collection of extraordinary exhibits is expanded by the skillful inclusion of media stations, interactive hands-on stations and animations.
In partnership with the curators of the Natural History Museum Vienna and a team of architects from Arno Grünberger/Spurwien, checkpointmedia has developed a contemporary form of knowledge transfer.
Specific aspects of general meteorite research and the unique Vienna collection in particular are introduced to visitors in informative video clips that contain a wealth of images. A hands-on station allows visitors to interactively control the extent of potential devastation that a meteorite impact could cause to Vienna, while an animated presentation of the birth of the solar system is guaranteed to amaze.
Particularly interesting exhibits can be studied in detail through a magnifying glass which provides additional information on a screen. In an interactive quiz, visitors are invited to guess whether a particular meteorite or stone pattern emanated from the skies or originated on Earth.
