FiltersThe information centre "energie.raum" in Gaschurn/Partenen on the Silvretta Hochalpenstraße communicates the agenda and history of the Vorarlberg producers of electricity Illwerke AG, not only as information but also on an emotional level. This "energie.raum" is a combination of exhibition and museum and presents the key issues: the company of Illwerke, the natural and cultural region of Montafon, as well as the use of hydroelectricity, energy generation and power station construction. checkpointmedia created the "kraft.raum" ("power.space"): video installations on all exhibition topics faciltiate emotional engagement with the various themes. Film sequences, vibrating sounds and lighting effects make power a sensuous and living experience. For visitors, the "kraft.raum" is the dynamic prelude to the tour around the information centre.
Creation of the company report for 2004 for Vienna International Airport using genesto, the special tool for publishing online annual reports. (genesto® is a content management system for the publication of online company reports. It was developed by checkpointmedia in cooperation with Mensalia Business Consultants.)
The visitors' centre at the Austrian Parliament, created by architects Geiswinkler & Geiswinkler, represents an opening up to the outside world and provides a gathering point for tourists and interested citizens. The use of multimedia serves above all to convey knowledge and is integrated into the architecture, e.g. the stations behind tinted glass are only perceived when they are switched on and active. On their arrival, visitors are greeted by an oversized media wall showing a film as an overture. At the first station, the process of making laws, which is the principal task of parliament, is presented simply and intelligibly on three synchronized monitors. The basic tenets of parliamentary democracy in Austria are elucidated in an interactive installation based on four elements: "Citizens", "Members of Parliament", "Laws" and "Enforcement". The Wheel of Time shows video clips that provide an overview of the historical cornerstones of Austrian parliamentarianism. It is operated by a large rotating mechanical wheel, by means of which one navigates along a time line. The Time Machine also allows larger groups to watch a film about the history of parliamentarianism in a "cinema atmosphere". With the "Time/Reading Glass" feature, a multimedia installation that combines virtual and mechanical elements, the public is able not only to explore the exterior of the Parliament building in great detail, but also look inside it. Hotspots communicate interesting information about the architecture and functions of the building. In 2006 the visitors’ centre of the Austrian Parliament won the Austrian State Prize for Multimedia in the category “Public Information and Services”.
The Sattler Panorama, completed in 1829 and presented in a mobile rotunda, became a pan-European attraction. Supplemented by an interactive module, the original panorama is now once again open to the public at the Salzburg Museum. Looking through a "time/reading glass", visitors can move a screen continuously over an image of the Sattler Panorama and alternate between 1829 and the present day in the selected section. A change-over switch accesses detailed information on the city's development since 1925; original sounds from city life enhance the virtual experience. The original Panorama can also be observed from a round rostrum using a specially prepared "telescope", which simulates the feeling of distance and perspective. The screen can be moved in front of any part of a reproduction of the huge painting (the original is nearly 5 metres high and 26 metres in circumference and has a surface area of 125 m²) and the corresponding detail of Salzburg as it is today appears for comparison. There is also a switch that can be used to obtain detailed information on the city's development since that time. checkpointmedia was responsible for the entire project: from the original idea to the exhaustive preparation of photographs for the digital aspects of the city, to software development for the time/reading glass and its functions, the design of the information unit and on-site hardware installation. Although the installation may appear very simple it actually consists of over 200 single parts, most of which were specially produced, and over 1000 screws.
To support the team working on Vienna Mozart Year 2006, some of whose members were located are in different places, a database-supported project administration was created that allows events, participants, venues, sponsors and much more to be collated and centrally administered. In a future project phase the database will also serve as a content management system for the website of Vienna Mozart Year.
Until 2011, visitors could view the private collection of the royal house of Liechtenstein in the Liechtenstein Palace in Vienna. The collection includes paintings and sculptures from four centuries. In keeping with the atmosphere and style of the building, the main focus is on the baroque era, and the works of Peter Paul Rubens in particular.
checkpointmedia created an organisation tool for coordinating use of the museum’s rooms. Individual rooms can be booked for exhibitions and other events, or for any restoration work that is required, using an internal web-based calendar. Ready-made forms serve as checklists for the necessary preparations: from coordinating deliveries to informing the security firm. In addition, information on events and guided tours are displayed on two vertical-format info screens in the foyer.
The Gartenbaukino holds a special place among Viennese cinemas. Built in 1960, it has the opulence and self-assurance of a classic premiere cinema. With its impressive big screen and 736 seats, it is the last remaining, large, single-auditorium cinema in Vienna city centre.
checkpointmedia developed the website, including the complete film programme archive and online ticket reservations.
checkpointmedia developed a subwoofer which, as in regular audio systems, enhances sound reproduction of low frequencies. Unlike conventional standalone appliances, this in-wall system is only 8.5 cm deep, which means it can be integrated into standard drywall constructions. Sound coupling to the air volume in the listening room is achieved by a hole pattern in the front baffle supplied that can also be plastered over. This makes the subwoofer the perfect, virtually invisible addition to in-wall loudspeakers in domestic and public environments.
Mass-produced equipment is not always suitable for meeting special requirements. This is why checkpointmedia also develops its own technical components for systems in both private and public spaces. With HaptiControl every multimedia appliance can be activated and controlled by touch, by operating a mechanical device (e.g. wheel, lever) or by sound (e.g. clapping). The HaptiControl is a specially designed interface that digitalizes the various sensors and transmits the information as a configurable, serial data stream. Response times are minimised thanks to its high real-time processor capacity. The data is processed and controlled using a conventional PC.
"Ponte Mozart" was a project suggested for Vienna Mozart Year 2006 by Roman Delugan, Katrin Zechner and checkpointmedia, which would have linked Vienna's 1st and 2nd districts with each other for a year. A temporary link was to be constructed as a landmark connecting the 1st district, the location of the Imperial and National Theatre, to the 2nd district, in Mozart's day "a suburb devoted to public walks and the entertainment of the populace" Harking back to the sweeping boulevard bridges that once straddled the Donaukanal, exclusive shops and small restaurants were to have lined the bridge to add to the nostalgic mood. At night, laser beams in the form of a musical stave were to link the two half-cubes which each featured an observation platform. A multimedia concert hall with windows in the floor was planned for the bridge so that the water of the Donaukanal could be viewed from above.
Media station for the "Johann Michael Rottmayr" exhibition from 7 May to 31 October 2004. Johann Michael Rottmayr (1654-1730) was the most prominent painter of the baroque period to emerge from Salzburg and one of the founders of the Austrian "imperial style". His work, more than that of any other artist, typifies the glorious colour of baroque art. For the exhibition at the Dommuseum in Salzburg (7 May to 31 October 2004) checkpointmedia adapted a media station that presented the artist's paintings as a rear projection.
A beautiful castle situated directly on the shores of Lake Mattsee in the province of Salzburg is an inviting venue for events and an attractive place to relax. The website features numerous images of Mattsee Castle and describes its history and development, including information on the current programme at the Leisure Academy. The information is specifically tailored to the target group and the service functions allow users to find the topics they are looking for quickly and easily e.g. sponsors can find details of the sponsoring concept, organisers can find room plans, visitors can check the events calendar, and the general public can browse through articles and photos.
With the programme planning tool for TW1, weekly TV listings can be planned internally and presented externally on the TW1 website. The tool was implemented in 2003 and has now been expanded and updated by checkpointmedia.
The website of Und Monastery in Krems, which is now a venue for events, was created by checkpointmedia who relaunched the site in 2004.
The website and the online submission facility were created using the JART XML framework, as commissioned by Diagonale – Festival of Austrian Film. A complete solution for festival management was implemented using the ticket system link.
In an imaginary concert room in the Haus der Musik visitors were able to experience the highlights of the 2004 New Year's Day Concert of the Vienna Philharmonic in superb sound quality. The DVD of the annual concert is produced every year by checkpointmedia.
The BUWOG website has been graphically and functionally redesigned and the range of information and services offered to the user considerably extended. With a property portfolio of around 21,000 apartments, BUWOG is one of the biggest and most important real estate associations in Austria. Changing market factors places new demands on the website. In 2004 the website was completely relaunched by checkpointmedia. The structure of the site was optimised, the visual presentation was designed by Stefan Fuhrer and implemented by checkpointmedia, and the functional scope of the website significantly upgraded to underline BUWOG’s role as a service provider.
A second "world", the "Waiters' City", in Hangar-7's Mayday Bar in Salzburg: in addition to completely new decor and a set of interacting figures - the waiters/waitresses - messenger tools delight the visitors with an intuitive graphical interface enabling direct communication across the bar. Just under a year after the bar's opening, an alternative to the "Flying Bulls" decor has been added: a new world showing a cartoon metropolis (NYC) from above that is populated by waiters and waitresses. The figures react in their own particular way to the users' "touching" them with a finger, to objects on the bar's surface and when they meet each other in the streets of the city. Messenger panels, which can be found in the 18 segments of the bar, enable visitors to send and receive messages directly to and from other guests at the bar. This fun means of communication can be used almost like a game of ping of pong for as long as desired. Operating instructions are available in the form of an animated tutorial.
The Vienna Boys' Choir uses checkpointmedia's content management system to run its website and announce forthcoming events. checkpointmedia has also created a practical information terminal in the magnificent rooms of the Augarten Palace that provides interesting and useful information about the Vienna Boys' Choir and that does not jar with the elegant setting. In addition, checkpointmedia regularly produces films for the international promotion of the choir.
On this site, patients, doctors, visitors and students can find detailed information and an overview of the service packages available. The presentation of the clinic and its history, its team of doctors as well as details of the various methods of treatment, health care and nursing are just part of the wealth of information available on the site to patients, doctors, visitors and students.

checkpointmedia developed and produced all the technical sound components for the high-tech ergonomic loungers. The special sounds of the "Blue Space" fill not only the whole room but also physically affect the guest's whole body. The Blue Space loungers contain new loudspeaker technology, which was first used in the wellness sector in Germany. The ceiling is decorated with liquid moiré patterns, which lend it a sense of movement. The new relaxation room aims to achieve mental regeneration of the highest quality. Your senses are off on a journey!
The official opening of the thermal recycling plant of Zwentendorf/Dürnrohr (AVN) was marked by a ceremony in St. Pölten Festival Hall in 2004.
A special feature of the ceremony was the fact that it looked as if the recycling plant was actually being “switched on” during the opening ceremony itself, although in actual fact the plant was miles away. checkpointmedia was responsible for staging this special effect: when, at the critical moment, the Governor of Lower Austria threw the "switch" on the stage, the entire auditorium was transformed into a factory exploding with light, animation and projections.
checkpointmedia was commissioned by the advertising agency Unique to design a stand at the Futura 2004 trade fair in Salzburg for washing machine manufacturer Gorenje. For this project, the touch panels of the latest generation of washing machines were portrayed by means of an animated rear projection.
The décor of the flagship store of Austria‘s leading mobile network operator A1 in Vienna is entirely white, and the atmosphere is created by sound.
In the walls on the way up the stairs to the bar and lounge concealed speakers have been installed that constantly create a sonic ambience with a three-dimensional effect. Technical appliances created especially for the project and a laid-back, relaxing atmosphere (designed by eoos) prove a stimulating combination.

The Vienna Musikverein Concert Hall, best known for the worldwide broadcast of the New Year's Concert, is one of the most famous auditoria for the performance of music. In the course of reconstruction and extension work, four new auditoria were equipped by Ralph Ortner and Matthias Schnellnberger (Wonderworks, later checkpointmedia) with state-of-the-art media technology, including an audio routing system manufactured using fibre glass. In a second phase, checkpointmedia equipped the Brahms Hall for spoken word events such as education programmes. In the historic surroundings of the auditorium that dates from 1870, a flexible infrastructure enables the technology to be connected up to different sites. In order to provide optimum acoustics for the sound system, the interior was measured and equipped with a speaker management controller. Connectible digital mixing desks support the production of contemporary sound images.
The starting point of the CD-ROM project was the discrepancy between existing teaching options and the nature of the content to be taught in schools. By 2004, technical equipment used in Austrian schools had steadily improved ("laptop classes"), but high-grade content was practically non-existent. School resources dealing with mineral oil and natural gas were obsolete. A CD-ROM was devised to supply information in a contemporary form. After comprehensive photographic research, around 150 pages of text and hundreds of graphics and animations were produced in cooperation with 50 experts from OMV. In order to create a product that was perfectly tailored to the target group, a team of teachers and pupils was invited to participate in the project. Finally, the CD-ROM was approved by the Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture as a teaching aid and subsequently handed out to all new recruits to OMV as well to inform them about their workplace. A glossary containing more than 250 definitions provides information on unfamiliar terms and concepts at the click of a mouse. In order to make numbers that are difficult to conceive (such as "a hundred million tonnes of crude oil") easier to grasp, a calculator was developed that breaks them down into manageable units using images such as bathtubs full to the brim, boiled eggs and the length of tank trains. A special tool for lessons and presentations was developed for creating individual screen sequences covering every aspect of the content. In order to help users access the enormous quantity of graphics, animations, videos and photos and make them available for further use, a media library was created, enabling direct download of all media in high-definition quality to the local computer. A notebook is available for storing texts for further use, with options for immediate direct editing and comments. Since so much data changes every year, an automatic update feature has been added for downloading updated texts, statistics and media from an OMV server to the local computer, or burning them onto a new CD-ROM. A re-edited English version of the CD-ROM was released in 2011.
The exhibition "Hans Moser" (2004) on the popular Austrian actor and virtual national institution was one of the most successful exhibitions ever held in the Austrian Theatre Museum. Its objective was to present the artist without resorting to clichés and to create new approaches to his work. A large-scale video installation combined famous scenes from Moser films in five parallel projections. The production cast a new light on Moser, with his comedic talent, his characteristic body language and his unique interpretation of human characters. In addition information steles with written texts and integrated audio elements showed views of the life and work of one of Austria's most popular actors. The exhibition "Grüß mich Gott" ("God bless me") on Fritz Grünbaum, the celebrated Austrian multi-talent of the inter-war years, also used multimedia features.
A number of maintenance operations and modifications were carried out for Red Bull Hangar-7, principally on the lighting and multimedia controls. A sound system was planned and installed for the Skybar immediately under the hangar’s roof. The Mayday Bar’s sound system was extended to include a pre-zone on the terrace of Hangar-7.
Technisches Museum Wien offers stunning insights into the world of technology on some 22,000 m² of floor space. The festival hall is in constant use for events and lectures and needed to be equipped with state-of-the-art event technology in line with the museum’s image. Both the hardware and software for the controls were implemented by
checkpointmedia.
Installation for Salzburg Special Exhibition 2003: “Archbishop Paris Lodron (1619-1653), Statesman between War and Peace.” For the exhibition "Archbishop Paris Lodron (1619-1653), Statesman between War and Peace", checkpointmedia designed and installed a complex projection installation and an information display for the entrance hall of the Salzburg Dommuseum. No other archbishop has left his mark on both the city and province of Salzburg to the degree that Paris Lodron has done. Besides his work as a statesman, his outstanding achievements include the completion and furnishing of the new cathedral. Its consecration in 1628 was the most magnificent celebration Salzburg had ever seen. The famous copperplate engraving by Christoph Lederwasch showing the procession to the cathedral consecration is "brought to life" in a projection installation.
With Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport, Red Bull has established a unique location for events and eating out. Having created the multimedia attractions for Hangar-7 and supplied ideas for the opening ceremony, checkpointmedia has now also produced the website.

To coincide with "Coffee Day" on October 1, Viennese coffee houses presented themselves online. The website was commissioned by the Association of Viennese Coffee Houses and invites everybody to take a little time and imbibe a little Viennese sociability. The content of the website is geared to the various interests of its users: for the curious there is carefully researched information on the history and culture of Viennese coffee houses or on famous patrons of the past such as poets, writers, politicians or other well-known people of the city. Guests and epicureans can learn all about their favourite cafés from the growing list of coffee house portraits. The practical search function for coffee houses gives addresses, contact data, and information on highlights - such as the dates of concerts in cafés with live music. New events in and around Viennese coffee houses are published day-to-day, and pictures and stories of typical culinary delicacies invite you to treat yourself. The patrons and supporters of Viennese cafés are also presented: the Association of Viennese Coffee Houses and the Club of Viennese Coffee House Owners. Friends of the Viennese coffee houses can receive the latest news in a newsletter. Famous coffee house patrons speak briefly about their love of the Viennese coffee house. The Website was designed and programmed by checkpointmedia; photos of the coffee houses used in the portraits (Café Weingartner, Café Sperl, Café Ministerium) and photos of the Billiard Museum Weingartner were taken by Ursula Waldeck (also checkpointmedia).
On 22 February 2003 Red Bull opened its amazing Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport. checkpointmedia was responsible for the planning and installation of the entire audio-visual equipment, the multimedia attractions and the website." A hangar to send you flying...an architecturally and aesthetically ambitious building of glass and steel" (Der Standard). Hangar-7 is more than just a new home for the aircraft of the Flying Bulls fleet: it is also an amazing venue for events, gastronomy and culture. For the opening on 22 August, the Salzburg Festival and Red Bull hosted a recital of Karlheinz Stockhausen's "Helicopter String Quartet" and Hubert Lepka's "Taurus Rubens", a flying performance in which people and aircraft presented a playful interpretation of Greek myths. In addition, the artist Jos Pirkner from East Tyrol unveiled large-scale sculptures, and an exhibition of images of vintage aircraft entitled "100 Years of the Wright Brothers" was shown. What makes Hangar-7 so unusual is not just its architecture but also its multimedia equipment, which was conceived and constructed by checkpointmedia. Besides an interactive bar, chat facilities, sound installations and light projections almost every possibility for using multimedia has been exploited.
The website for the University Hospital for Accident Surgery and Sports Traumatology in Innsbruck offers patients, visitors, doctors and students a broad spectrum of information and a clear presentation of the range of services available. Alongside an overview of the hospital itself, its staff and its methods of treatment, a calendar of events is also provided.
One of the criteria for the development of the website was that it should include services which simplify the daily hospital routine or make it more attractive. For instance, appointments for examinations and consultations can now be made online, or you can send greetings to the office, where they are printed out and passed on to the people concerned.

checkpointmedia installs a new control unit for 12 audio stations for the Technisches Museum Wien. The output of any CD player can now be used as source signal, making it much easier to sevice the stations.
checkpointmedia supports the preservation and transmission of traditional Tibetan culture by programming and administering the website of the Bon Children's Home. The internet presence of the children’s home in Dolanji, which is run by Tibetan monks in the Indian Himalayas, aims to facilitate the raising of urgently needed donations and to make the institution and its goals known all over the world. News items and reports are placed on the website by satellite directly from India. (Design: Harald Schimann). Lha-Tri Khenpo Nyima Dakpa Rinpoche, abbot of the Lha-Tri monastery in Tibet, came to see checkpointmedia in 2003 to thank us for the implementation of the website for the Bon Children's Home.
The first website for the architects Peichl & Partner provides information on current and completed projects in the categories of museums, office buildings, residential buildings, public buildings and drafts. The development and characteristics of the buildings are discussed and the key technical specifications given. The projects are illustrated by a host of detailed photos, sketches and plans. In addition, the site contains information on the architects' office itself and the history of the firm and introduces the team of architects and their partners. checkpointmedia developed the concept and design and was responsible for the programming.

With Vienna Airport's company report for 2002 a new genesto® generation goes online. A host of new functions such as the ability to jumpstraight to the corresponding page in the previous year's report provide a level of convenience that has not previously existed. Having been in operation for many years, the database-supported system now reveals its full potential in terms of comparability and transparency. The "Toolbox" facility enables the user to gain access to a corresponding page in the previous year's report with one click, a unique advantage for professionals. "Toolbox" also offers an optimised print, PDF and EXCEL download function as well as an e-mail recommendation of the page concerned. After several years of using genesto, companies can take advantage of the "Planning 2001 - Implementation 2002" feature. This is a juxtaposition of the forecasts made in 2001 with the actual events in 2002, which examines the company's performance beyond the confines of the period under review. Another useful addition that improves usability is the list of the most frequently viewed pages ("Top10 function" on the start page).
Although numerous objects, above all from pre-historic times, have been found at archaeological excavation sites in Wattens, the tendency has been to exhibit them in depot-like settings, with limited access for visitors. In order to display these objects in an adequate way, as well as to establish a connection to Swarovski as having played an essential part in the development of Wattens, the idea was born in 2003 to create an archaeological "treasure chamber" near the Crystal Worlds. The archaeological finds were to be incorporated into the theme of "jewellery", placing the theme in turn in a local context. The museum building, which was based on a design by Carl Auböck, was conceived as a kind of "foundling", inserted into the landscape as an oversized piece of jewellery and creating a landmark beside the huge gate to the Crystal Worlds. The architectural structure itself comprises a steel construction with aluminium facing, while the roof area is equipped with an iris diaphragm to regulate the amount of available daylight. Small frameless LCD screens have been built into the walls like fragments of hidden treasure. They function as scene-setting elements as well as information carriers. A room-filling sound installation recreates the historic periods in which the objects were discovered. Eight exhibition stations trace the story of people's need to adorn themselves with jewellery from the present day to prehistoric times. In the middle of the space, an artificial excavation site presents the theme of "finding". This design initiative was discarded in 2003, but the project was resumed in 2007, at a new location and with an architectural concept by Arno Grünberger/spurwien.
The Red Bull Hangar-7 at Salzburg Airport fulfils many purposes, which at first glance seem to conflict with one another. It is an air show centre with an air base for aerobatic troops and an aircraft showroom with numerous restored classic, veteran planes. It is also a location for art and lifestyle events and top-class gastronomy. The multimedia installations produced by checkpointmedia for this "high-tech entertainment area", reflect the building’s multiple uses. The entertainment factor is of prime importance and aims to give visitors a great experience, full of surprises and excitement, in line with the company's image. After dark, visitors are shown the way to the hangar by means of a huge projection of the Red Bull logo. Next to the entrance is the Doppler Foyer, which transforms a scientific topic into a sensory experience: centrally controlled light devices conjure up an artistic visualisation of the Doppler Effect (named after the Salzburg physicist Christian Doppler); transparent DVD steles serve as information carriers and add audio elements to a sound collage. The opening of Hangar-7 in August 2003 stayed with the topic of flying and featured its own 1960s-style stewardess costumes for the hostesses. Steles shaped like aircraft tail assemblies displayed videos, pictures and information about the exhibited aircraft. Invitations were designed like VIP tickets and sent with a specially made folder and box. A Hangar-7 umbrella was designed and produced in the oval shape of the hangar. The main attraction in Hangar-7 is the Mayday Bar, which was equipped with interactive features between 2003 and 2010. The almost circular surface (270°) was conceived and developed as a continuous screen for interaction with the worlds of animation played out on it: aircraft of the Flying Bulls hovered over the Salzburg landscape, wrapped themselves round glasses, or fled from ashtrays. In a second setting - New York, comic style - amusing waiters interacted with cocktail glasses and mobile phones. Visitors to the bar could communicate with each other via a virtual communicator, a contemporary version of the legendary table telephone. In 2003, the technical implementation of the Mayday Bar was a complex matter: 38 PCs in 18 modules, each with a projector, detected what was happening at the bar through infrared sensors. The computer registered the data objects, which triggered in turn a programmed interactive response. The technology was integrated into the bar counter and completely invisible to guests. There are mini-multimedia gimmicks in Hangar-7 as well, like the WC chat: guests can create cartoons and speech bubbles - virtual graffiti - with which to communicate between the ladies' and gents' toilets. In the hangar’s interior, tailored audio-visual equipment was conceived and developed both for the main area as well as for the gastronomy zones and private VIP rooms.
The Crystal Worlds, designed by André Heller in Wattens, Tyrol, was opened in 1995 for Swarovski's 100th anniversary. Since then it has been continually expanded and further attractions have been added. The audio-visual scenario of the meditation room, “Crystalscope”, provides a counterpoint to many of the other attractions in the Swarovski Crystal Worlds. A high-definition rear projection running quietly shows an over-dimensional crystal on the ceiling, the colours in its virtual facets constantly changing. Ambient sound from invisible speakers accompanies visitors who can lean on one of the concentrically arranged steles and gaze up at the ceiling to view the crystal from an ideal angle. The "Corridor of Metamorphoses" shows an animation on multiple monitors, aligned next to one another, which proceeds to document - in the direction of the walking tour - the metamorphosis of fractured forms into crystalline structures and finally into crystal sculptures. "The Giant's Belongings" presents utility objects such as gloves or an accordion in larger-than-life proportions. They are moved mechanically by a special control system, which also regulates the synchronicity of lighting and lighting effects.

The invitations were designed like airline tickets and guests who accepted the invitation were sent a specially made pilot's case by courier, which contained a brochure about the event.
checkpointmedia developed the concept for the planned permanent exhibition "Von Hexen und Zauberern" ("On Witches and Sorcerers"), as commissioned by Hohenwerfen Castle. The exhibition focuses mainly on "Zauberer Jackl", the most popular figure of legend and the cause of the biggest witchcraft trials ever seen in the province of Salzburg. Jackl himself was never caught: however about 200 people were executed instead of him. A wealth of chilling and thrilling tales was woven from the accusations and rumours of the time. The aim of the exhibition is to use an example to show the phenomenon of "magic" from the different perspectives of history and legend: What frightens us? What fascinates us? Why are we fascinated by what we fear and how powerful an influence can prejudice be? Multimedia is used to give visitors the chance to discover, understand and experience this phenomenon.

The RiesenRäderwerk ("Giant Wheel Works") was set up in 2002 as a theme park surrounding the Vienna Giant Ferris Wheel. The main attraction is the panoramic view, which transports visitors into the atmosphere of the old Prater: eight wooden waggons rotate in a carousel and show scenes from the history of Vienna, with the help of puppet shows and audio images. An oversized iris diaphragm repeatedly opens up the view onto the Giant Ferris Wheel. checkpointmedia produced the audio images and the atmospheric sound collage. They also planned and implemented the sound and control systems of the entire multimedia scenario.

The interior furnishings and technical appliances were supervised or installed by checkpointmedia itself.
The Museum of the Vienna Philharmonic is in the Haus der Musik in the heart of Vienna city centre. In a permanent exhibition that ran for over two years and was organised by the Technisches Museum Wien, the subject of building was presented in its many different technical and architectural facets. Three examples - a bridge, a high-rise building and a tunnel - were chosen as examples to demonstrate to visitors the technology and building materials involved, as well as the vital role these constructions play in shaping the character of entire cities and landscapes. The exhibition's centrepiece was a scale model of Vienna's Millennium Tower, Austria's tallest building. The model was as high as the room and could be "explored" with the aid of touch screens. Information on the construction and planning could be displayed on the model and was indicated by light signals.
Other reconstructions built to scale showed the functionality and aesthetics of bridge construction and revealed the various phases of tunnel construction. Besides diagrams and presentation boards, information on the most important aspects of these specialist fields was also provided on media stations and internet terminals. Especially for younger visitors, experiment worktops were provided on which the youngsters could try their hand at reconstructing bridges, for example, to help them understand the principles on which they are built.
The specially programmed internet terminal supplied answers to questions on the topic of building. Film sequences on media stations showed the speeded-up construction of high-rise buildings or enabled visitors to follow the building of Tulln Bridge stage by stage. The checkpointmedia team was commissioned by Brigitte Simma's studio with creating media stations and animated film sequences.
