Project details
For over 100 years, the investigation of the Hallstatt site and its surroundings has been a research focus of the Department of Prehistory of the Natural History Museum in Vienna.
In that time, investigation of Hallstatt as an economic centre and of the Hallstatt textiles have established themselves as further fields of research. The new website www.nhm-wien.ac.at/hallstatt contains full details about this archaeological treasure trove.
checkpointmedia is responsible for creating this site, whose design is modelled on the Museum’s main site. Pictorial information was adapted to create interactive images, and videos and 3-dimensional graphics have been added to provide a comprehensive overview of the research activities, the landscape and especially the steps leading down to the salt mine, which are the oldest surviving set of wooden steps in Europe.
Apart from information on the research that has been done, the website also offers an overview of current activities and serves as a platform for networking with blogs and other sites about Hallstatt.
